If you have any ideas for techniques that get you going...let me know!
Write a short story... It must have these items in it: a seashell, a bucket full of rusty nails and a stone fireplace. When you're done, go ahead and post it in the guest book!
Create a modern day fairy tale. Take a story like Cinderella or Goldilocks, and revise it. Make the story new, with interesting characters, and in modern day settings. Maybe Cinderella met her true love at Al's Diner and he gave her a hat instead of a glass slipper. Maybe Little red Riding Hood was an actress...the possibilities are endless.
Make up your own country or world. Think about what it would be like to live there. Would people wear space suits? Could cats fly? Would there be man-eating bushes there? Would dragons eat butterflies? Describe the people, landscapes and any unusual animals living there. You could even make a map. I love to see your work, so please post it in the guest book.
Twelve-year-old Frank is sad that his brother went away to college. Write a scene about this without ever using the words: sad, downcast, sorrowful, unhappy, miserable, depressed, gloomy, down, wretched, dejected, despondent, desolate, forlorn, melancholy, woeful, depressing, gloomy, miserable, cheerless, heartbreaking, or distressed. Hint: SHOW that he is sad or upset through his actions and words, don't TELL it!
Find your favorite book. Re-write a scene from the story, using your own words, making the main character do the exact opposite of what he does in the book. Spice it up! Make up a new ending! Just play around with it...maybe you'll be inspired!
Create a tongue twister. This is always fun! Pick a letter of the alphabet and create a sentence or more, using only words that begin with that letter. Like this: Anna ate Al's apple after Al attacked Anna' s ant arena!
Write a poem story or poem about what ever you want. The only thing is, it must include the phrase, "there's gold in them there hills!" Good luck, and let me know what you come up with!
Begin a story with this sentence. "The cloaked figure slowly walked towards the doorway…." Who is this person? Why is he wearing a cloak? What is he looking for? Where is he going? Is acting "suspicious"?
